PW_Street Mapping Overview

PW_Street is the RASTRAC street level map database. The PW_Street map database contains information similar to the layered maps (counties, cities, roads, rivers, etc...). The PW_Street map database contains US Census data that has been highly compressed (the entire US map database down to street level only requires 570 MB of disk space). This map database was created by merging multiple map data sources into a single map (including states, counties, cities, lakes, airports, railroads, roads, schools, hospitals, zip codes, etc...). Map properties can be enable/disabled at selected zoom levels. Map attributes such as color and size of labels can also be modified. This produces a very aesthetically pleasing map that allows you to pinpoint your vehicle’s location at any given time. You can also use the PW_Street map to search for a desired address (address lookup). The PW_Street map can be zoomed out to show a large coverage area (the entire US) and then zoomed in to reveal the underlying detailed roads.

You can increase the zoom in or out level by holding down a number key while selecting the Zoom In/Out menu item (if you right click on the map). Use any number from 2-9 to increase the zoom out value.

You can zoom out to view all 50 states by holding down the shift key while selecting the Zoom Out menu item (if you right click on the map).

You can zoom a map by holding down the left mouse button on a map and dragging an outline of the area of interest. When you release the left mouse button the map will zoom to the area outlined by the ‘zoom-box’. If you want to cancel the zoom, hold down the escape (Esc) key when you release the mouse button.

You can have a distance counter displayed on the map if you hold down the shift key while holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse around the map.

You can pan the map (shift the map without using the scroll bars) if you hold down the control (Ctrl) key while holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse to the desired location on the map.
