Vehicle Events Settings

The event settings dialog allows you to create, modify, or delete event settings for the entire system. Event settings are defined for all vehicles in the system (the Vehicle... Events... Delete... menu allows you to delete an active event triggered by a specific vehicle).

Event settings are checked every time a vehicle update is received with an active event number. For instance, vehicle 'POLICE_265' sends an emergency update (the driver presses a button in the vehicle and the mobile device sends a location update with event 99). When the update is received, the event settings are checked to see if event 99 is defined and if there should be any further actions taken. When an event is triggered, that event (for the vehicle receiving the event) can cause: the current event to be ignored, the current event to change to a new event, the current event to delete previous events and then ignore the current event, or the current event can delete all previous (or up to 25 specific) events.

Defined event numbers are shown in the list on the left. The selected event is displayed and all settings for that event are shown on the right.

To add a new event, enter the event number and press the Add Event button.

To delete an existing event setting, select an event from the list and press the Delete Event button.

Select the 'Ignore This Event (all other settings are ignored)' check box to ignore the event selected. All other settings for this event are also ignored. If an event is received for a vehicle and it is ignored, then the event will not trigger an advisory.

Select the 'New Event Number' check box to change the current event to a new event number. All other settings for this event are ignored. The settings for the new event number will be used if one is defined. Changing the current event number to a new number is useful when two different hardware devices send different event numbers for the same type of event. For instance, a GPS2020 hardware device may send an event 303 for input #2 enabled and an Enfora hardware device may send an event 102 for input #2 enabled. You can then define event 102 for input #2 enabled and define event 303 to create a new event number 102. Therefore, when the GPS2020 device sends an event 303 it will be changed to event 102 and all settings for event 102 (if defined) will be used instead of 303. This eliminates creating multiple advisories for the same type of event.

Select 'Ignore Duplicate Events (trigger this event only once if in multiple updates)' check box to ignore duplicate events when the event is received in multiple (continuous) updates. The current event will be ignored if the event has already been triggered (from a previous update) and has not changed. Selecting this option helps reduce multiple event advisories from being triggered when an event is received in multiple (continuous) updates. If a vehicle sends updates with the same event continuously (e.g. some Kenwood FleetSync radios send the same status code with every update) then this option will allow only the first event received to trigger an advisory. The next update received with the same event number will be ignored (only the event field will be ignored and not the rest of the update). Only one event will be triggered until an update is received with a new event number.

Select the 'Delete Previous Events (all or selected) - Then Ignore This Event' check box to delete previous events (all or up to 25 specified events) when this event is triggered. After deleting previous active events (see next two options) for the vehicle, the current event is ignored (will not trigger an advisory).

Select the 'Delete All Previous Events When This Event Is Triggered' check box to delete all previous events when this event is triggered. When this event is received, all previous events (active for vehicle receiving this event) are deleted. Use this option to cause only one event to be active at a time for a vehicle. For instance, if event 99 (emergeny) is received, then all previous events (there should only be one active) will be deleted for the vehicle. If the vehicle sends status events like job started, job complete, enroute, on break, at lunch, then only one event should be active. So, if job complete event (e.g. 245) is received, then the previous job started event (e.g. 244) will be deleted (along with any other active events).

Select the 'Delete Selected Event(s) When This Event Is Triggered:' check box to delete selected previous events when this event is triggered. When this event is received, the listed (selected) previous events (active for vehicle receiving this event) are deleted. Use this option to cause the event to delete only the selected active events for the vehicle. For instance, if event 245 (job complete) is received, then event 244 (job started) could be deleted for the vehicle (other active events will not be deleted - like emergency). If the vehicle sends input events like input #1 on/off, input #2 on/off, input #3 on/off, then each on event should delete the off event and each off event should delete the on event. So, if input #2 on event (e.g. 102) is received, then the previous input #2 off event (e.g. 302) will be deleted (if for defined event 102 the event 302 is in the selected events list). Enter an event number and press the Add button to add a specified event to the list. Select an event from the list and press the Delete button to delete a selected event.

Click the Close button when done.
